We hire rarely and we are blunt about it
Working Here
Small outfit, no ladder, and the work is physical. Call (984) 253-8579.
Roles we hire
Commercial Door Technician
Hollow metal and aluminum openings inside Charlotte. Closers, exit devices, locksets, hinges and continuous hinges, thresholds and seals, strike and frame work, leaf and frame straightening. You will be on your own at a building most days with a van and a phone. The work is physical, it is often in occupied buildings with people walking past you, and a meaningful share of it is undoing somebody else's improvisation.
Service Coordinator
Phone, scheduling and parts, which here is one role rather than three. You need to be able to hear a non-technical description of a door and translate it into a parts list that is right more often than it is wrong. Distributor or inside-sales hardware background is the most direct route in. Being able to work in Spanish as well as English is genuinely useful on Charlotte job sites and is treated as such.
Requirements
- A valid driver's licence and a record that lets us insure you on a company vehicle.
- Eligibility to satisfy whatever North Carolina licensing the role turns out to require, which we will be specific about for the role rather than vague about here.
- Ability to lift a hollow metal leaf with one other person and to be on your feet for a full day.
- Comfort working in occupied buildings — kitchens during service, corridors during business hours, docks while they are receiving.
- Willingness to write down what you found and what you did, in a way a facilities manager can still read in two years.
- Enough judgement to stop and call when an opening turns out to be a labelled assembly or a bigger job than the work order said.
On experience
Commercial door background is the shortest path and it is not the only one. Locksmiths, glaziers, industrial maintenance people and finish carpenters have all made the switch successfully. What does not transfer well is residential-only experience, because the tolerances, the codes and the hardware are a different world and the habits usually have to be unlearned before anything can be built on top of them.
Getting in touch about a job
Ring (984) 253-8579 and ask for Merritt. Describe a door you fixed and what you found when you got there — that tells us more than a resume does, and it is roughly the conversation you would be having with customers if you worked here.
Hiring here follows the workload rather than a calendar, so there is frequently nothing open. If that is the case you will be told directly rather than left on a list.
