Disclaimer
Read this alongside the terms. It exists mainly because this site carries more real code and standards content than a trade site usually does, and that deserves a boundary around it.
General information only
What is written here covers the trade at a general level. None of it is advice aimed at one specific opening in one specific building, and no amount of reading replaces a technician standing in front of the door.
Standards references
References to NFPA 80, NFPA 252, UL 10C, the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, the International Building Code, the ANSI/BHMA A156 series and the ANSI/SDI A250 series are given for identification and were verified against published sources before publication.
Those documents are the authority, not this website. Where this site summarises one, the summary is a summary and the published standard governs.
Where sources disagree on a figure, this site omits the figure rather than choosing one. That is a deliberate editorial position and it is why some numbers you might expect are absent.
Things this business does not certify
- The annual fire door assembly inspection record contemplated by NFPA 80 is not something we issue.
- We do not certify accessibility compliance for a building or an opening.
- We do not perform automatic or power-operated door inspections.
- We do not issue engineering opinions on wall construction, frame anchorage design, or structural adequacy.
- We do not test or certify fire alarm interfaces; where a hold-open device ties to an alarm system, that contractor certifies their side.
We will tell you when something in front of us would not pass an inspection. That is a technician's observation and it is worth having. It is not a compliance certificate and should not be filed as one.
Photography and people
Images on this site illustrate the kind of work described. They are not a portfolio of specific completed jobs, they are not presented as before-and-after evidence, and no customer building is identified in any of them. The people named on this site work here; there are no stock portraits attached to invented names.
Availability
Nothing on this site states or implies a response time, an availability window or an out-of-hours service. Where timing is discussed it is discussed on the phone, about a real week, with a real answer.
Raising something on this page
Anything on this page can be raised with Charlotte Commercial Door Service on (984) 253-8579. There is no form here and no address to write to; the phone is the channel.
